The Honey Show 2022

The Association holds a Honey Show each year. This year will be at the West Moors Memorial Hall on 12th November 2022.

You can find details of the various classes and an entry form in the links below. We would encourage all members, Associate and Full, new and old to join in. Even if you do not have bees or enough honey to exhibit in the main classes (two or three jars), you only need a standard 1lb jar for the novice award. There are also several classes you can enter if you don’t have honey; including a photograph of interest to beekeepers, a cake or some biscuits.

The recipes to follow are provided below, exhibits must be made from these recipes. You can buy honey to put in the recipes if you don't yet have your own.

Any registered member of East Dorset Beekeepers Association can enter.

The list of classes and rules can be downloaded from below. Once you have decided on which classes you want to enter, then download the entry form and send through to the secretary, Margret.

Honey Cake Recipe
  • 200g/7oz Self Raising Flour
  • 110g/4oz Butter or Margarine
  • 2 Medium Eggs
  • 175g/6oz Honey
  • 175g/6oz Sultanas
  • 110/4oz Glace Cherries (Halved)
Method: Preheat oven 160℃. Cream butter/marg with honey. Beat eggs well and add them alternately with sifted flour then fold in sultanas and cherries. A little milk may be added if necessary. Bake in a greased circular tin 7”/18cm in diameter for approximately 1 hour. Timing is for conventional ovens and is a guide only as appliances vary. To be displayed on a plate with doily covered with clear polythene/cling film.
6 Lemon and Honey Biscuits
  • 2.1/2oz Margarine
  • 4oz Plain Flour
  • 1oz Caster Sugar
  • 1 Dessert Spoon Clear Honey
  • Pinch Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon grated lemon rind
Method: Cream margarine, sugar and honey. Add sifted flour, salt and lemon rind. Mix thoroughly until a smooth paste is formed. Turn onto a floured board and roll to approximately 1/8th inch thickness. Prick with a fork, cut into rounds and bake at (180℃ or gas mark 4-5) on a baking sheet for approximately 15 minutes or until pale golden in colour.
